Being open to European art and culture
In July 2008, the Culture Commission of the European Union opted to support PROSPERO, an ambitious theatre project with a five-year cultural cooperation agreement (2008-2012) drawn up by six establishments:
- the Théâtre National de Bretagne (Rennes, France) which is running the project
- the Théâtre de la Place (Liège, Belgium)
- the Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione (Modena, Italy)
- the Schaubühne (Berlin, Germany).
- the Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon, Portugal)
- the Tutkivan Teatterityön Keskus (Tampere, Finland).
Since then, these establishments have been working to develop European creation, establish European research projects and train young actors. They are making the most of a shared cultural space and heritage, helping works and artists become more widely seen, reinforcing intercultural dialogue and promoting the diversity of cultures. Beyond these objectives, they wish to contribute to the emergence of citizenship in a Europe that is free, democratic, social, pacifist, artistic and cultural, as well as being open to other continents.
During the 2011 / 2012 season, PROSPERO will be continuing its activities in three main areas:
1. Developing European creation

- Lisbon 28 and 29 October 2011
- Rennes 15 and 16 November 2011

- Tampere in August 2012
In February 2012, there will be the premiere of Husbands, adapted from John Cassavetes and directed by Ivo van Hove (Netherlands), following a residence at the Théâtre National de Bretagne in Rennes. It will then be performed in the other five cities:
